Undergraduate Format of Writing Project Report. Matter No. 1

The content of chapter 1 is as follows: 

Chapter 1

1.0.         Introduction: 

·         In the introduction, it is expected that the author/ researcher should tell the readers what chapter one will cover, that is the different aspects of chapter one.

1.1.         Background to the study: 

  • Justify this, by discussing the reasons for choosing the title for the study and discuss the variables in your study. It is expected that the researcher explains the different variables in the study and relate it to the existing educational issues

1.2. Statement of the Problem: 

  • The author/ researcher should narrate the problem and state the steps that would be used to solve the problem. This could be done by giving a background of the different problem that surround  the variables that lead to the research study.

1.3.         Purpose of the study:

  • The author/researcher should state the general and the specific purpose of the study.

1.4.         Research Questions: 

  • The author/researcher could state the research questions to correlate with the purpose of the study.

1.5.         Research Hypothesis/es: 

  • The author/researcher could state the hypothesis/es, to correlate with the research questions and purpose of the study

1.6.         Scope /Delimitation of the study: 

·         The author/researcher should delimit the study based on the purpose of the study or the content of what is to be covered in the study and the geographical area where the researcher would collect the necessary data.

1.7.         Significance of the study: 

  • The author/researcher should highlight how the study would be relevant to the global community, the nation, possibly the specific state within the nation, educational system, school system, students, relevant stakeholders in the educational field and how it is significant to the author. 

1.8.         Operational Definition of terms: 

  • Identify the terms in the variable of the study and define the terms operationally or as peculiar to the study.

1.9.         Assumption if there is any: 

  • Assumptions should be stated in a clear concise form

Chapter Two-Review of Literature

2.0. Introduction: 

  • The author/ researcher is expected to the different aspects of chapter two.

Summary of the different aspects of the literature review

  • The author/researcher should highlight the subheadings of the literature that would be reviewed, and the review should follow the variables in the study.
  • Just make a summary of the different aspects you intend to write on under the literature review after the proposal must has been approved.
  • 70% of study citations and references should be from ten years to the period of study e.g., if a study is ongoing in 2024, references and citations should start from 2014 till 2024.

Chapter Three-Research Methodology

 3.0. Introduction: 

  • It is required that the author/researcher states what chapter three contains, that is the different aspects of chapter three.

3.1. Research Design:

  • State the design and methodology that will be used for the study, this could be 1. Qualitative Research Methodologies-(Case Study, Ethnography, Phenomenology,
    Grounded Theory, Narrative Inquiry). 2. Quantitative Research Methodologies- (Experimental Research, Quasi-Experimental Research, Survey Research, Correlational Research, Descriptive Research) and 3. Mixed Methods Research Methodologies- (Explanatory Sequential Design, Exploratory Sequential Design, Concurrent Triangulation Design)         

3.2. Population:

  • Identify the target population or respondents for the study, this could be within the global village, continent, nation, state or local government area.

3.3. Sample and sampling Techniques:

  • From the chosen population, state the sample size that is required for the study and the techniques that would be used to achieve it.  This could be: a. Probability Sampling Techniques-(Simple Random Sampling, Stratified Random Sampling, Systematic Sampling, Cluster Sampling). b. Non-Probability Sampling Techniques-(Convenience Sampling, Purposive (Judgmental) Sampling, Snowball Sampling, Quota Sampling.)

3.4. 1nstrument for Data collection:

  • Explain the instrument(s) or means of collecting your data. 
  • The instrument for collecting data should be based on the variables earlier identified.
  • The instrument could either be adopted or adapted, this has to be clarified. The instrument could be (Questionnaires Interviews, Observations, Tests and Assessments, Documents and Artifacts,  Focus Groups, Surveys, Rubrics)

3.5.  Validation of the Instrument: 

  • Define how the instrument will be validated.

3.6.  Reliability of the Instrument: 

  • Describe how to find the reliability of the instrument(s), a statical tool that could be used and the expected reliability coefficient.

3.7.  Method Data collection:

  • State how the instrument would be administered for the study and explain how data will be collected.

3.8. Method of Data Analysis

  • Narrate how the data that will be collected, and analyze and state the statical tools that will be used for the analysis. 

3.8. Pilot study:

  • A pilot study is required as this will make it easier for the researcher to convince the reader how reliable is the instrument that will be used for the study.
  • Note: This format of writing project would be useful specifically for students in Education and social sciences

Chapter 4: Presentation of result and summary of the findings

4.0. Introduction: 

  • The chapter should be introduced to the readers, by stating the different aspects of the chapter.
  • It is expected that this chapter should present information on the data collected, and how they were collated, analyzed, and presented in tables. 
  • Presentation of the findings needs to be concise for clarity and should be written based on the different statements of the research questions and or hypotheses for the study.
  • It is required that a summary of the findings is stated at the end of the chapter.

Chapter 5: Summary, Discussion, Conclusions, and Recommendations

5.0. Introduction: 

  • Narrate what the readers should expect to read in this chapter.

5.1.          Summary: 

  • In a precise manner give a summary of the whole study from chapter one to the last chapter.

5.2.          Discussion of the findings: 

  • State each finding and discuss it with the findings of other authors.

5.3.          Conclusions: 

  • Highlight the conclusions based on the findings from the study.

5.4.          Recommendations: 

  • State some recommendations which should also be related to the findings.
  • Ensure that different groups or individuals that would carry out specific action/s are mentioned in the recommendation/s stated.

Format of text: The format of the text is as follows:

  • Choose Times New Roman 14-point font size.
  • Set 1-inch margins all around – top, bottom, left, and right.
  • Use flush-left style – do not right justify.
  • Indent the first line of each paragraph
  • Include a “running head” on each page, flush left. (Optional for student papers)
  • Number each page starting with the cover page.
  • Place page numbers at the bottom of each page.
  • Double-space within the paper and the reference list.
  • Double-space after the title, headings, footnotes, long quotations, references, and figure captions. (Source APA 7th Edition)
