Introduction

Do you realise that having a school is one of the glorious achievements in this present age? Yes, it is glorious but a school without solid facilities could destroy the purpose of education. Or maybe you think school facilities are only about the buildings within the school premises. It means you are ignorant of what school facilities are. To have good knowledge of what school facilities are and some related perceptions around them just read this to get the step-by-step knowledge of what you need to know about school facilities.

 Concept of school facilities

Before you can have striking school facilities in your school, you need to know a few facts. The availability of the school building and other plant facilities are vital physical resources and school items that could bring about an effective school system. Good facilities have contributing factors to make the school system work effectively. Well-sited school buildings with aesthetic conditions, playgrounds, laboratories, Etc. usually contribute to achieving higher education.

This presentation is an introductory part, and it will cover the following aspects:

Definition of school facilities

School facilities are the elements that facilitate the different operations within the school system, they are the combination of different school-related amenities that are set aside to educate learners. They cover the entire school plant such as the school environment, school building human and non-human materials.

School facilities are the different elements that facilitate all academic and non-academic operations within the school system, they guarantee the enablement of the entire system within a school, and they could be referred to as the intermingling of different related elements working for teaching and learning, as well as handling school affairs.

They cover the entire school plant such as the school environment, school building human and non-human resources. They also include the necessary required related gadgets for instruction and administration of a school within a given location. School facilities are beyond well-constructed classrooms, libraries, media centres, laboratories, cafeterias, outdoor spaces, dormitories,  school halls, offices interior and exterior facilities,  hardware installations for different rooms,  availability of computers and computers rooms, provision of internet facilities, alongside human resources but they cover everything that would make schooling beneficial to learners both physically and emotionally.

Some other features of school facilities consist of the clinic, administrative block, and dining hall, they are all-encompassing and enormous. Therefore, it is required that the need for school facilities be taken seriously and must physically be high to provide the users with suitable conditions for comfort and well-being.

Roles of school facilities

Some roles of school facilities are highlighted as follows:

1.      School facilities ought to be provided about the number of students that are admitted into the school every year to give appropriate and conducive accommodation.

2.      It is required that school facilities should be good enough to allow decent communication and rapport between teachers and students.

3.      School facilities should provide comforts that may easily facilitate learning.

4.      School facilities are the impetus that could lead to the success of any educational endeavour of any given society.

5.      Good school facilities have the role of exposing students to a good standard of living which could generate a community becoming an egalitarian one.

6.      School facilities ought to give students have genuine experience of basic hygienic standards.

7.      Within school facilities are libraries which make it convenient for students to have personal studies and develop in the academic discipline.

8.      Diverse kinds of functional laboratories are essential aspects of school facilities as they provide a solid foundation for relevant scientific experiments to produce graduates who from scholarly experience discover scientific concepts that could benefit the entire society.

9.      Amidst school facilities is the provision of special rooms for special subjects that harbour real materials that give students have practical experience of the concept being taught.

10.  Technological gadgets are part of school facilities that make it possible for students to have first-hand experience of operating gadgets for learning and future manifestation.

In a nutshell, school facilities play a significant role in students’ development and build in them the confidence to face the challenges of life

Importance of School Facilities

The importance of School Facilities is enumerated as:

School facilities have the responsibility of developing students’ mental fitness, peace of mind and ability to concentrate without any form of intrusion.

The weight of school facilities on the school system is enormous, as appropriate facilities make students develop the ability to focus on whatever endeavour they find themselves in life. Shoddy rooms with little or no ventilation would hinder students from focusing on their studies when instruction is going on.

To rank school facilities within the educational system it is an impetus to teachers, school facilities influence teacher recruitment, preservation, responsibility, and determination. To students, school facilities serve as a stimulus to better health conduct, comportment, interaction, culture, and growth in achievement.

The position of school facilities in the school system is to ensure conformity to good instructional spaces and provide sufficiently flexible instructional space for effective instruction to take place

School facilities stand to ensure proper temperature and control of temperature, either in a temperate or tropical region, the amount of light in the classroom is highly germane if the purpose of education should be fulfilled.

The status of school facilities to society is to ensure that schools are situated at the centre of the community where education would be offered to all categories of students.

School facilities have a reputation for contributing to a sense of ownership, personalization, and control, especially in the community where communal efforts are used to establish a school.

The significance of school facilities lies in the sense of motivation, social patterns within the school and other psycho-social dynamics among students.

School facilities are ingredients that are vital for the provision of social needs in students’ development. Students’ affective domain will be impaired if they do not have good social interaction with these identified elements of schooling.

Prominence in the provision of school facilities is the fact that well-designed schools allow students to connect with a larger number of peers, which may not be possible in a sordid environment.

In a nutshell, since learning means modification of behaviour which takes place through simulating contact with the environment in or outside the classroom, having properly managed facilities has a significant impact on students' and workers' self-esteem. It helps them focus, take pride in their schools and workplace, and make them feel proud about working in such an organisation. It also decreases sick days, and hence increases both student's and workers' productivity.
